Λίγο πριν την έναρξη του Grand Prix στο Μπαχρέιν, ο Fernando και ο Nelson μιλάνε για την βελτίωση του μονοθεσίου και τις επλίδες τους για τον αγώνα.
Ahead of tomorrow’s free practice sessions for the Bahrain Grand Prix, the two ING Renault F1 Team drivers give their thoughts on the season and talk about their hopes for the race.

How do you look back on the Malaysian Grand Prix
Fernando: The positives of the race are that we were able to take part in the third part of qualifying, then to finish in the points. On the negative side we had to give everything to achieve this. We are still not where we wish to be and we must work hard to get on terms with the leading teams.
Nelson: For me, the contrast with the Australian Grand Prix was striking. I was able to maximise my time on the circuit during free practice, I did not have any technical problems, and my preparation was all the better. Of course, I would have liked to reach Q2 and to have scored points, but we have to realise that we will make gradual process and we must not set unrealistic objectives.
What are the problems that have an impact on the performance of the R28?
Nelson: I think we are missing a little bit of aero performance.
Fernando: The equation is simple for us. To be quick in the corners, we must run with a lot of wing and then we lose lots of speed down the straights. On the other hand, if we want to keep good straight-line speed we must run without much wing, and then we are slow in the corners. The first significant development on the car will be with us in time for the next race in Barcelona which should allow us to improve our performance. But we have to see if our competitors will improve by the same amount.
Are you disappointed not to have been able to establish Renault as the third force in the paddock at the start of the season?
Nelson: It’s always frustrating not to be where you would like to be. On the other hand, the performance at the beginning of the season does not change my programme and will not affect my priorities. For this weekend the objective will be to learn from Fernando, not to make any mistakes, to do better than I did in Sepang and to improve the quality of my feedback to the team etc…
Fernando: When I decided to return to Renault, I knew that the performance would not be comparable with that of Ferrari or McLaren – the gap was too big to overcome in one winter. Having said that, I did have some small hopes. I thought that it would we possible to fight regularly for the podium, maybe even to take one or two wins. That is not possible at the moment and my feelings are therefore divided. But who knows what we will be capable of in one or two races…
